How it works
Two ways to get started
What you need depends on what you want to control.
Plug it in yourself
For appliances with an ordinary plug: an oil radiator, a dehumidifier, a car charger on a wall socket.
- 1Buy a Shelly Plug smart plug.
- 2Install the free app and sign in with your Apple or Google account.
- 3Add the plug in the app and choose a rule, such as the cheapest hours of the day.
Have an electrician fit it
A water heater, electric heating or a heat pump is wired in, so the relay that controls it is fitted by a qualified electrician.
- 1Tell us what you want to control and where you live.
- 2An electrician fits a Shelly relay to the appliance's supply.
- 3You add the relay in the app and choose how the appliance runs.
- 4The app shows what you have saved.
You need a Shelly relay or plug (Gen2 or newer) and a market-price (spot) electricity contract. Not sure what suits you? Ask us

See what you save
Savings in euros for today, the week, 30 days or the year. Worked out from measured use, not estimates.

Runs when power is cheapest
Your devices run in the cheapest moments of the day, down to 15-minute periods. The price chart shows when control is on.

Heat when you need it
Simple rules for price and temperature: more heat on frosty days, less when it is mild. An affordable Shelly H&T works as the room sensor.
Across Europe
In use across Europe
Every day they run their devices in the cheapest moments of the day. The app works in 40 electricity markets in 26 countries.

The dots show only a rough area, never anyone's location.

Marco's everyday example
The water heater heats in the cheapest hours
A water heater on a timer heats at the same time every night, whatever the electricity costs. Marco, our electrician, makes it follow the price instead.
- 1An electrician connects a Shelly relay to the water heater's supply.
- 2In the app you choose: heat in the four cheapest hours of the day.
- 3Every day the app picks the hours from the new market prices, and the saving shows in euros.
“The water heater doesn't care what time it heats. Your electricity bill does.”

Frequently asked
What do I need?
A Shelly relay or a Shelly Plug (Gen2 or newer), a market-price (spot) electricity contract, and the app on an iPhone or Android phone.
How much will I save?
It depends on what you control and how much the market price varies during the day, so we don't promise a figure in advance. The app works out your actual savings in euros by comparing what your electricity costs with a typical fixed-price contract in your region.
Do I need an electrician?
Not for appliances with a plug: you fit a Shelly Plug yourself. For a hard-wired water heater, electric heating or heat pump, an electrician fits the relay, and in Finland we can help you find one.
Which Shelly devices work?
Shelly second-generation and newer devices, for example the Plus 1PM, Plus 2PM, Pro 1PM, Pro 2PM, Pro 3EM and the Shelly Plug. You set them up directly in the app, with no other apps needed.
Does it keep working if the internet drops?
Yes. The Shelly carries on with its latest schedule and fetches new prices when the connection is back.
Can I help my parents save?
Yes. They share their devices with you in the app, and the devices appear in your app too.
Which countries does it work in?
40 electricity markets in 26 European countries, from Finland and the other Nordic countries to Central Europe, Spain and Italy.
Are you an electrician?
Your customers ask how to get the most out of spot-price electricity. Fit a relay on your next water heater or heat pump job, and get installation requests from your area.
